About Turkey
Turkey's emissions have more than doubled since 1990, driven by coal power expansion and rapid urbanisation. It ratified the Paris Agreement only in 2021 and set a 2053 net-zero target. As a major exporter of steel, cement and aluminium to the EU, Turkey is one of the countries most exposed to the EU CBAM, which is accelerating plans for a domestic ETS.
Key Facts
- Most CBAM-exposed non-EU country by trade value after Russia and China
- Ratified Paris Agreement in October 2021
