Carbon Emissions Calculator
Estimate your carbon footprint and understand the potential cost under UK carbon pricing. Calculate emissions from energy use, transport, and business operations.
UK average SME: 15,000-25,000 kWh/year
UK average SME: 5,000-15,000 m³/year
This estimate assumes your business falls under UK ETS coverage. Actual costs depend on sector, allocation, and compliance obligations.
Understanding Carbon Emissions and UK Carbon Pricing
Carbon emissions, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2e), represent the greenhouse gases released from burning fossil fuels and other activities. The UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) puts a price on carbon emissions to incentivise businesses to reduce their environmental impact.
How is the Carbon Price Determined?
The UK ETS operates as a cap-and-trade system where the total amount of emissions is capped, and businesses can buy and sell emission allowances. The current carbon price fluctuates based on market conditions, typically ranging from £40-80 per tonne CO2.
Who Needs to Pay Carbon Costs?
The UK ETS covers energy-intensive industries, power generation, and aviation. From 2026, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will also apply to certain imports. SMEs may face indirect costs through energy prices and supply chain impacts.
