About France
France has the lowest per-capita emissions of any large industrialised economy thanks to a nuclear fleet that supplies around 65-70% of electricity. Its main emissions sources are transport, buildings and agriculture rather than power. France introduced a domestic carbon tax in 2014 but froze increases after the 2018 gilets jaunes protests, a cautionary tale for carbon pricing design.
